Versailles, MO
Versailles, Missouri, was named after the famous palace in France. The town was developed in 1834 with land donated by local pioneers and today it is one of the major tourist centers in Lake of the Ozarks, attracting thousands of visitors every year with a combination of fantastic scenery and exciting attractions to suit the whole family.
Jacob's Caverns are one of several large cave attractions in the local area. This huge cave complex was first opened to the public in 1932 and is famous for the beautiful reflective pools, prehistoric bones left behind by mastodon, bear, and peccary, and the world's largest geode. The cave bears the evidence of six ice ages and three earthquakes, and amateur geologists will find it endlessly fascinating. The complex covers half a mile of beautiful limestone rock formations, stalactites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, and massive columns.
