Lake of the Ozarks

Sunrise Beach is a town in Camden and Morgan counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population of Sunrise Beach was 368 at the 2000 census. Sunrise Beach, MO is located on the west side of the lake and offers all the amenities that modern life considers necessary, from recreational facilities (including many resorts and marinas) to medical and real estate offices, and everything in between. Some consider Sunrise Beach to be the single most beautiful community around the lake.

In the 1920's and early 1930's, Sunrise Beach and surrounding communities consisted of nothing more than vast areas of timber and brush. After the construction of Bagnell Dam by Union Electric, several communities sprang up around the lake, primarily due to the beauty inherent in this area. Sunrise Beach, MO was established in 1931. Originally a construction site, it quickly became a popular location with a store, a restaurant, and a general meeting place for workers. These workers were clearing the land and left over masonry that had to be removed prior to filling the Lake. They established the foundations of Sunrise Beach on what was once known as Road 17, but is now called Lake Road 5-35. In 1954, the Village of Sunrise Beach was incorporated, with an area of approximately 2.5 square miles.
