Laurie, MO

Laurie is a town in Morgan County, Missouri, United States. Laurie, MO was incorporated in 1964 with a population of 106, the city has grown to 663 as of the 2000 census. The town of Laurie didn't officially come into existence until after the state began construction of SR5 in the mid-1920s, at which time area residents built a general store, gas station, and church. Today Laurie, MO is embraced by beautiful country, rich with history, and treasured for its summertime recreation. Laurie is also full of resorts, marinas, restaurants, and stores but still manages to hold on to its unique and friendly personality. It was here that the Osage tribe of Native American once made their home, and today's amateur archeologist discovers that the Osage River and Gravois Creek can still surprise by give up arrowheads and tomahawks. A worthwhile stop in Laurie is St. Patrick's Church, Cemetery, and Museum which dates from 1868. Also, mid-September brings the annual Hillbilly Fair, featuring carnival rides, music, food, a beer garden, and a Hillbilly dress contest.
