Lake of the Ozarks: Lake Events
It's almost impossible to list all the Lake of the Ozarks local events. Of course, there is plenty of information on state parks, golf courses, fishing, boating, shopping etc. in brochures, Chamber of Commerce publications, Web sites and visitor information kiosks. But gathering it all in one place might be an unreachable goal. There is simply too much to do in the lake area.
One of the key things that attracts visitors to the lake is the location itself. Centuries ago this was home to the Osage tribe of Native Americans. In the past 100 years or so the area has been home to settlers who moved here from the eastern United States. The history and culture of both Native Americans and later settlers gives the Lake of the Ozarks a special atmosphere.
A majority of visitors come for the boating and fishing, of course. Water-related events and activities exist by the dozen. The Harbor Hop in May is one of the more anticipated events of the year, along with the Youth Splash at Westlake Aquatic on the first Sunday of every month during the summer season. Memorial Day weekend is a great time to enjoy fireworks around the lake, with several locations offering a display. Don't forget to check into the Farmer's/Merchants market held on a regular basis during the warm months.
Several fishing tournaments are held each year, including the popular Red Oak event in June. At about the same time, the Lake Area Master Gardeners hold their annual garden walk. You may want to check out the "World's Largest Pontoon Boat Party on June 12 at Captain Ron's. Other June events include boat-in movie night, Miss Planet Beach Model Search and a variety of musical concerts, including those sponsored by the Ozarks Jazz Society.
Fourth of July activities and fireworks displays are a major attraction among Lake of the Ozarks local events. Check with the Chamber of Commerce or other representatives in various communities for dates and times. Throughout the summer months you can enjoy cars, trucks and motorcycles during the regular Hot Summer Nights cruises at Bagnell Dam.
August brings such events as the annual Missouri Wine Festival. This year the festival is set for August 7, with Country Club Hotel and Spa as the host site. Rocky Mount, just north of the lake, is the location for the newly established Sweet Corn Festival (September 4). The annual Osage Beach Fall Festival is set for September 11. October is the month for the Versailles Old Tyme Apple Festival and the Big Bass Bash.
One of the best ways to find out about specific Lake of the Ozarks local events and festivals is to check with the towns of the lake area. These include Osage Beach, Lake Ozark, Camdenton, Gravois Mills, Sunrise Beach , Laurie, Versailles, Eldon, Warsaw, Hurricane Deck, Climax Springs, and Stover.
