The 13th Annual
Great Lake of the Gospel Sing
(April 7th-9th, 2011)

The month March heralds a number of religious festivities at the Lake of the Ozarks. The St Patrick’s Day celebrations are the highlights of the first half of the month and the second half of the month focuses on the Great Lake of the Ozarks Gospel Sing. While the former is an Irish religious event in honor of the patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick’s, the latter is an event to bring together some of the best Christian music to the land of the Ozarks.

The start of this event can be traced back to the year 1997 when some Christian volunteers joined hands with a common goal in mind. They wanted to introduce the flavor of Christian music to the fun-filled land of the Ozarks. They planned the event in great detail and finally in the year 1999, the first instance of this festival was held in the month of June. The Stoneridge Amphitheater at Camdenton played host to the first instance of this event. However, in 1999, this event was referred to as the Cross-over.

After the second year’s celebrations, the volunteers who initially came up with this idea, realized that they were combining two festivals as one event. Hence, they decided to split the celebrations into two distinct events. In the year 2001, the celebrations at Southern Gospel were given the name The Great Lake of the Ozarks Gospel Sing. Main Street Hall at the Ozarks was the venue for this event. The celebration at the Stoneridge Amphitheater was given a contemporary feel and is now called the Cross-over.

Through the passage of years, the objective of The Great Lake of the Ozarks Gospel Sing has remained the same. This event is now spread over three days and is well attended. The event that was attended by just a few hundred when it started off a decade ago is now being attended by thousands of Christian music fans from various parts of the world. The gospel sing volunteers who strive to make this event a success work towards it free of charge. This is the reason the tickets for this event are nominally priced so a lot of people, even those with budget constraints, can attend the Gospel Sing event at the Main Street Music Hall.
