Annual Osage Beach Fall Festival
Once again, the crisp September Missouri air is thick with the fresh smell of leaves and flowers turning orange with the season. From a distance, the pristine waters of the Lake of the Ozarks reflect the soft autumn sky. A group of children are laughing and talking nearby, their hands busy with all sorts of colorful arts and crafts, their small fingers entwined in a rainbow-colored tapestry. Some are dabbing their sponges in a set of child-friendly face paints; one wants to be a tiger, the other an alien, and a third, a bold eagle with a brown face. Next to them, a cherubic toddler on his mother's lap begins to coo with delight as he is presented with a big red balloon.
On the other end, some young boys eagerly explore the carnival, while a couple of families sit leisurely under the shade, enjoying a scrumptious fare of warm pecan pie, plump roast beef sandwiches and cool drinks, sharing stories about their lives, and having a grand old time. Meanwhile, a handful of older women in graceful dresses flock together over a cool bowl of pink fruit punch, sharing a juicy bit of news they read in the magazine.
