Every boating enthusiast should head to the Lake of the Ozarks in the months of August and September to witness some of the best boating tournaments in the world. While Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is the highlight of August, it is the Offshore Super Series National Championship Race that takes the spotlight in September. Both these events are attended by people in large numbers.

The fastest boats in the Lake of the Ozarks region line up to compete against each other and fight for the "Top Gun" title. Captain Ron's Bar and Grill, located on Lake Road, plays host to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout each year in August. The event, which finds a mention in the list of the top eight "should-not-miss" events in the USA, is the largest unsanctioned event for boats in the country.

In order to qualify for participation in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout 2010, boats must have a length of 22 feet or more. There are over 50 categories in which the boats will be judged before deciding on the final winner eligible for the "Top Gun" title. The boats are judged based on the hull's design, length, number of motors used to run it, the overall size and many more.

Every boat that participates in the race will have to run a mile in the water while the judges clock the timing. The time taken by each boat is noted down and finally compared against each other. The boat with the fastest speed is adjudged the winner of the event. So, unlike in the case of the Offshore Super Series National Championship race, in this event, the boats actually run against time and not against each other.

If you thought that only car and bikes races attracted fans in thousands, wait till you read further! Each year the Ozarks plays host to over 75,000 people, including spectators and competitors, who come to either witness or compete in this shootout.

There are innumerable arrangements made by the various associations of the Ozarks in order to accommodate the inflow of people during this event. For spectators watching from the shoreline, there are various food booths set up to cater to their needs. For spectators watching the event from their boats, Captain Ron's has two vessels exclusively designated to cater to their refreshment options. The hotels and lodges in this region offer good discounted packages to the visitors during this event.

There are other events also organized during the Shootout in which the spectators can also participate. The Annual Shootout Benefit Golf Tournament and Dam Run are couple of events that run in conjunction with the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. There is also a Shootout Charity Auction that is held in which goods and services worth $25,000 are auctioned.

In addition to this, there are also arrangements made to keep the crown entertained even when the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is not in progress. There are many contests and shows held for adults and children. Performances by local musicians and other live bands are organized at the Vendor Village and Racer Village at Captain Ron's.
