Lake of the Ozarks Shootout 2009

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the United States and been listed by Powerboat Magazine as one of the 8 boating events that you should see. With speeds reaching well over 175mph on a mile-long drag course, boats from all across the United States, Canada, Peru and beyond to start their quest for the honor of being Top Guns. The Shootout brings top racers and off shore racing power boats topping 200mph. Last year over 30,000 spectators watched the event as Dave Callan and John Cosker from Callan Marine hit 208 mph. Speaking of giants, the Dave Scott Bud Light Offshore Race Team is one of the most successful offshore race teams in history, having earned eight world championships and ten national championship titles since 2001. The team is also the proud owner of six offshore speed records. Dave Scott, Johnny Tomlinson and Mike Seebold have more than 40 years of combined experience in offshore powerboat racing.
Proceeds benefit the Lake Area Rescue Teams, the Red Cross and other charitable organizations!

If you are a veteran Shootout spectator or planning to attend your first event, there is a lot of preparation needed to make sure you and your family enjoy this amazing event to the fullest.

Here is a helpful list of possible plan ahead items:
- Aquiring Proper Lodging: First, you need to decide where you are going to stay. Lake of the Ozarks offers many vacation rentals ranging from house boat rentals to luxury condo rentals which ensure every traveler will find the right Lake of the Ozarks accommodation at the right price. You might see inflated rates for condo rentals and hotels because of the mass crowds the Shootout brings. If you are looking to attend this event on the cheap, try shopping condo rentals or hotels in nearby town and make the drive to the races.
- By Land or On the Water: There are several ways to watch the Boat Races during the Shootout. You can rent a boat or bring your own boat out and tie up along the course. This is obviously the best way to get a front row seat for watching those powerboats fly by. For those of you who want to enjoy the boat races by land, there are many vendors and also Racer Village set up at Captain Ron's.
- Evening Festivities: After the boat races finish for the day there are many night life options. Captain Ron's always has Live Entertainment. There is also time ample time to greet and greet the racers. This is also the Platinum Powerboat Club Party at Cannonball Beach
