Lake of the Ozarks: Annual Poker Run 2010

Another important date for your boating diary is the MidwestBoatParty’s third Annual Poker Run that is taking place on Lake Ozark, the weekend of June 25th and 26th. The MidwestBoatParty is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Operation Home-front—a charity which helps the men, women, and families of America’s armed forces.

Last year, more than 120 boats and over 400 boaters came along to support this event and even though it paid out a very generous $5,000 in prizes, the event still managed to raise a staggering $15,000—all of which was sent to Operation Home-front.

Operation Home-front was founded in the aftermath of September 11 and it provides emergency and morale assistance for troops, for the families they leave behind, and for the wounded troops when they return home once again. The charity provides direct financial assistance where necessary, plus counseling and recovery support. In total, Operation Home-front has given more than $92 million dollars of funding to programs which have benefited military families.

Participants wishing to take part in this year’s poker run event must register via the official site first. The event will take place in sun or rain, so once entered, you will not be able to request a refund if you are unable to attend for any reason. With an entry limit of 150 boats, if you do want to take part, it would be wise to register your interest sooner rather than later: once the limit has been reached the organizers will no longer take any more registrations.

There will be two routes for the poker run: a short run and a long run. You can choose to do either of these routes, or you can do the complete run. If you do choose to do the complete run, you will be entered into a prize draw at the dinner and awards ceremony which will take place following the events. These will be held at the Dog Days Bar & Grill.

For those boaters feeling lucky with the cards, the first prize is $2500, $1000 for second place, and $500 for third. And as a special prize for the lucky individual who draws the worst hand of the event, they get to go home with a $100 gift certificate for the Dog Day Bar & Grill, which they can use to drown their sorrows if they choose!
