Lake of the Ozarks Water Parks

With its lush backdrop of trees and rolling hills, and its large expanse of water, it’s no wonder that CNN ranked the Lake of the Ozarks 4th in their list of "America's Healthiest Beach and Lake Getaways" in 2009.

Apart from the regular haunts by the lake, there are a number of water parks around the Lake of the Ozarks that cater to people of all ages. Don your favorite bathing suit and check out the different rides and activities. Bring your friends and family, or have a fun day by the waters with that special someone.

Kids can enjoy wading in child-safe swimming pools that emulate the beach, with water sloping from 19 or so inches and downwards.

Speed junkies can get a kick out of whirling and twirling water slides. Race against a friend down long, bright-colored loops propelled by gravity, luck and a surge of water. Take part in the exhilaration and excitement of a three to four-story drop in a frenzy of waves. Brave your way through an aquatic vortex and get the adrenaline rush of a lifetime.

Water lovers can get swept off their feet by wave pools, with currents going as high as 3 feet. Rent a tube (or your choice of an inflatable flotation device—whatever is offered in the water park) and venture deep into the waters. Have a leisurely dip, or take an invigorating swim towards the farther end of the pool.

Those who just feel like just loafing around can cruise around the water parks through the designated water channels circling around the area. Some even go as far as 600 feet (depending on the size of the water park). Ride the current on a rented inflatable mini-boat while talking with friends and basking under the sultry sun. Work on that tan while checking out the sights, or just lie there, and watch the clouds pass by.

The water parks are normally closed during the winter season, but they reopen some time in the middle of May. Prices range from $9 to $30. Some charge a flat entrance fee, with separate fees for the rides and amenities inside the water park.

You might also want to look into the season passes, which gives you access to certain water park facilities for the whole day. They also offer family packages that might come in handy the next time you feel like bringing the rest of the brood along.

To make sure you pick the right place to visit, check out the water parks’ websites and read the reviews from various visitors. This will also help you choose the right package for you and pay for it in advance so that you can budget your trip better.
