The winding lake was created nearly 80 years ago when design engineers and construction crews built Bagnell Dam on the Osage River. The project provided electrical power to thousands in this area of Missouri and the dam still ranks as one of the most important utility projects in the Midwest. Visitors who choose to take a fascinating helicopter ride find that aerial views of the dam and the lake it created remain in their memory long after they have returned home.

In the period extending from the 1960s to the 1990s, helicopter rides over the lake region and Branson were very popular with tourists. At one point, helicopter-tour operators ceased operation, much to the disappointment of residents and visitors alike. But the thrill and fascination of gliding over the magnificent scenery is back!

Of course, you’ll want to see and enjoy as many of the on-the-ground activities as you can. By all means, glide across the lake on a pontoon boat, visit the shops, find one of the great area restaurants for a good meal then hear some great music at one of the night-time venues. But don’t forget to leave some time for helicopter rides over the Lake of the Ozarks. The ride is smooth, the views are jaw-dropping and the memories will last a lifetime.
