Lake of the Ozarks Reviews

Review of Big Surf Water Park

The Big Surf Water Park is in Linn Creek, Lake of the Ozarks and is a popular outdoor watery and non-watery attractionBig Surf Waterpark at the Lake of the Ozarks for families. The park features lots of fun rides, all of which have a watery theme, and are designed to appeal to kids of all ages—not to mention adults!

For the exceptionally brave types with no fear of heights, the Zambezi Falls is one of the best rides in the Big Surf Water Park at Lake of the Ozarksarea. I am scared of heights, but I was persuaded to give it a go and although I was totally petrified at the top, the trip down the four-story half pipe into the pool below was totally awesome.

Other really cool rides at the Big Surf Water Park include the Space Bowl, the Challenger Fumes with lots of excellent water slides, and The Rapids. We also enjoyed the Lazy River as it gave us an opportunity to chill out after some hair-raising moments on the big slides.

Splash Island is perfect for younger kids as it has very shallow water and my little sister spent most of her time in there playing around with my Big Surf Water Park in the Lake of the OzarksAuntie who is scared of deep water. There is also a dry ground area for those who hate water. It has all kinds of fun stuff including sand volleyball, pool tables, basketball, and shuffleboard. We didn’t really bother with it, but it looked OK. Other facilities in the park include a gift shop and a surf-side grill where you can buy food and drinks during your time at the park.

Overall I would fully recommend the park as being a fun day out for all the family. It does tend to get pretty packed during the summer, and you might end up queuing for the best rides, but it is still great value for money, especially for kids, so I am going to rate it 4 our of 5 stars.

Review of Spa Shiki

If you are looking for the full luxury treatment need look no further than the Spa Shiki. I was privileged to have a double treatment from Spa Shiki at the Lake of the Ozarksthem last summer. This is a place to relax and forget some of the things that drive our busy lives. The amenities are exceptional and no expense was spared in terms of making my stay a memorable one. The massage therapists might require some seasoning but this is luxury treatment at the top of the range. You should expect to pay a mandatory tip of 18%. Perhaps their client care services might need some revamping. Nevertheless the presentation of the spa has been excellent so far. The deep tissue massage is thorough, if a touch hard.

If you are going to St Louis or the Lake of Ozarks then the Spa Shiki is the perfect choice.  For about $170 I was able to get an excellent Alpha Beta peel facial as well as a massage that lasted just under one hour. This is a good deal given the attention to deal that has been put into the spa. The reservation system that they are using is direct and effective. There is a feedback process to ensure that your Spa Shiki at the Lake of the Ozarksappointment is kept at all times. The spa is strikingly beautiful. The color-coordinated tiles and plants are a classy touch. You get water and lemon on the side tables. The smell of aromatherapy tells you immediately that you are in for some treat. There are separate locker rooms for men and women. You get access to saunas, restrooms and lockers. I was pleasantly surprised by the fluffy robes that they offered. For just $5.00 I was able to get some delicious and nutritious smoothies. I would strongly recommend this unique spa and give it a 4 out of 5 starts.

Review of the Main Street Music Hall

Coming up on the 15th season, the Main Street Music Hall, unlike what most people presume is not a building. It is a music show that has been “rocking” Lake of the Ozarks right from iMain Street Music Hall, Lake of the Ozarksts inception. Having heard a lot about its fame, I made it a point to visit this show on my last trip to Lake of the Ozarks, and I must tell you, it was worth my time and money!

The Main Street Music Hall is one place where you can find some of the best entertainers in the country coming together to enthrall people with their soulful rendition of music. A couple of people I met when I visited this hall mentioned to me that they had visited the hall a couple times a year. When the concert ended, I understood the why!

The singers who form the cast of the Music Hall are extremely talented. Not only do they render melodious music in their lovely voices, there are also versatile in impersonating personalities like Stevie Wonder, Cher, Tina Turner, Elton John and many more, and if you thought they sound horrible when they impersonate other singers, you should visit to witness the truth! I don’t recall any other musical concert that I have enjoyed more. Irrespective of the type of music you love, this concert is sure to be a memorable one since they offer great variety ranging from soul to country.

I am very passionate about the type of music that dominated the industry in the 60’s and 70’s and attending this concert was like reliving the past. They churn out melodies of the bygone era and stir up long forgotten memories that are sure to make you feel overwhelmed by the end of the show.

Main Street Music Hall, Lake of the OzarksAnother interesting thing I noticed during my visit was that the people in the audience ranged from 6 to 60 years and more. And, despite the vast age difference, everyone seemed to enjoy the show. And by the way if, like me, you thought that Main Street Music Hall was just about musical performances, you should wait until Gabby Gumm, the comedian, takes center stage. His versatility in this profession is evidently displayed by the fact that he keeps the audience in splits for as long as he is in control of the stage. Though I liked the entire show immensely, I was awed by the performance of Eric Mitchell who is, by the way, a new addition to the cast.

Rock and Roll, classic country, soul, jazz, contemporary…any kind of music you want to listen to, Main Street Music Hall is the perfect choice when you visit Lake of the Ozarks. This hall that offers endless entertainment and complete value for money truly deserves a 5 of 5 rating.

Review of the Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Located along the Niangua arm of Lake of the Ozarks, Ha Ha Tonka Park is as unique and distinct as it name. A natural spring, columbine hiking tracks, ruins of a castle and abundant wildlife are just about a few things that one can expect to see in this park.

Ha Ha Tonka State ParkBeing a lover of outdoor activities, I decided to visit Ha Ha Tonka Park with my entire family. We were told that this state park was was favored by hikers and when we started out on our hike, we realized why!

This park is a must watch for those who love the nature at its best. You can really relax and be at peace. My children, who love the ruins of old forts and castles, were more than excited when they reached the ruins of the castle.

One thing about the park that I liked the most was that there are sections that are handicap friendly. When I saw people taking their grandparents on wheelchairs, it reminded me of my father back home recuperating from poor health for whom this trip may have been a refreshing change.

We visited the Ha Ha Tonka Ha Ha Tonka State ParkPark in summer which is one of the more preferred seasons for hiking, but I heard people conversing that autumn was even better. While the nature and beauty left me asking for more, it is the Devil’s Kitchen that I enjoyed the most. This is a name given to a trail that is flanked on both sides by huge rocks. But, if you are not strong enough, it is not worth a try.

Just like most people in Missouri, the tourist guides here are friendly and will guide you through sights in the park worth a visit.  We enjoyed the hiking trip immensely. Don’t forget to take along enough water and food for the entire day, and don’t  forget to bring insect repellent or those ticks will eat you alive! And yes, if you would love to take a dip in the water after a long hike, there is a spring to dive into. Don’t forget to pack your swim wear though! There is no entrance fee to gain entry into this park which means you can get to enjoy all this and more at no cost at all. For all the fun and adventure and natural beauty, I would rate this park 4 out of 5 (I think it would have been a perfect 5 if only they had made some arrangements for food for the hikers J)

Review of Bridal Cave and Thunder Mountain Park

The Bridal Cave and Thunder Mountain Park is just north of Camdenton in Lake of the Ozarks and is located right on the shoreline. It describes itself as an underground adventure you will never forget and is a very popular attraction with visitors to the area.Bridal Cove at the Lake of the Ozarks

The Bridal Cave is a beautiful underground network of caverns with a large subterranean lake, stalactites and stalagmites. It is open all year round and guided tours take place every ten or fifteen minutes and last around one hour. Concrete pathways take you through a great many caverns and caves and during the tour you will learn lots of fascinating facts about the history of the cave complex.

As well as the cave complex, Thunder Mountain has a gift shop selling a variety of rock and mineral gifts and souvenirs, a snack shop, picnic areas and nature trails. You can alsBridal Cavel at the Lake of the Ozarkso try gemstone mining.

On the day I took my kids to see the Bridal Cave, it was blisteringly hot outside and heading into the caverns where the temperature was a pleasant 60 degrees was a blessed relief. We did not have to wait long for a tour and the guide was very informative. The rock formations were absolutely spectacular and the kids were most impressed; in fact, it was probably the best cave complex we have even been to and is fully deserving of its fine reputation. Our gBridal Cave at the Lake of the Ozarksuide was friendly and happy to answer questions from the people on the tour, and although some of the children present were rather noisy, we still managed to hear most of what was said.

Overall I would highly recommend the Bridal Cave and Thunder Mountain attraction at Lake of the Ozarks. It is well worth the money and the views from the cave entrance are beautiful. I would definitely rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

Review of Seven Springs Winery and Vineyard

The Seven Springs Winery and Vineyard can be found in the hills above Osage Beach in Lake of the Ozarks. As well as giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy a spot of wine tasting, the SevSeven Springs Wineryen Springs also has a restaurant on site serving a menu of snacks and light dishes. Visitors can take advantage of the shuttle bus service from any lake area location (for a fee), or drive the short distance from either Edmonton or Osage Beach.

The winery has plenty of seating both indoors and out, and on the night I took my boyfriend, we chose to sit outside as it was exceptionally warm and I wanted to watch the sun set over the lake. When we first arrived, we had a go at wine tasting, which was fun, and then we chose a nice bottle of dry red wine toThe Seven Springs Winery and Vineyard drink with our food.

The menu is designed to compliment the wines on offer, so my boyfriend chose prime rib and I had the beef bourguignon roll. The ribs were a little on the tough side, but my beef roll was very tasty and the wine was excellent.

The ambiance was also excellent. The combination of wonderful location and glorious views across the lake was incredibly romantic and the Seven Springs Winery is a great place to take a date for some wine and food. There was also live music on the night we went, which was very good, and we spent a lovely couple of hours drinking our wine and enjoying the entertainment.

The Seven Springs Winery and VineyardAlthough the prime ribs could have been better and the wine tasting is not particularly cheap, if you are searching for a romantic venue, the Seven Springs Winery is a lovely place to take your significant other and I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars for the ambiance alone.

Review of Docknockers Beach Bar and Grill Restaurant

Docknockers Beach Bar and Grill Restaurant in Lake Ozark is a waterfront restaurant specializing in seafood dishes. Docknockers is in great spot right on the Docknockers Beach Bar & Grilllakefront and you will find it just off Cherokee in the Wheelhouse Marina. It is a very popular venue with the boating crowd through the summer months, but is also a firm favorite of locals living in the Lake Ozark area. As well as an extensive menu, the venue also features entertainment on a regular basis, including live music nights, Happy Hour, and Party on the Deck nights.Docknockers Beach Bar & Grill

The menu has a long list of all things fishy, so if you are strictly a red meat aficionado, the Docknockers menu might not be everything you ever wanted. However, for those who enjoy fish, the menu at Docknockers has plenty to be cheerful about and you can choose from light dishes to meals guaranteed to fill even the hungriest stomach up.

I took my kids along for a casual meal out one evening and although the place was fairly crowded, we placed our food order at the counter inside and found a table on the deck without a problem. Shrimp was sDocknockers Beach Bar & Grillerved in a galvanized bucket over fries, which my kids adored. I ordered crabs legs and these were superb: cooked to perfection and washed down with an ice cold beer. There was a live band playing and the atmosphere was excellent.

Great food, good music, and a fantastic location all came together to create a really good night out, so if you are searching for a casual family dining experience or a lakefront venue to enjoy an evening with friends, the Docknockers Beach Bar and Grill should be top of your list of places to go in Lake of the Ozarks. For the crabs legs alone I would rate this venue 5 out of 5 stars.

Review of Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill

Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill is a well known restaurant and entertainment hot spot at Sunrise Beach in Lake of the Ozarks. Captain Ron’s has an enviable location right on the water front that includes boat slips for those who arrive via the water. Captain Ron's in Sunrise Beach, MOThe dining room resembles a giant ship, but if you visit during the summer, you can also choose to sit outside on the patio or beach. Captain Ron’s regularly features a wide range of live entertainment and for the vast majority of the time, the place is usually very busy, which means you should be prepared to wait a while for a table.

The food at Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill is loosely based around the theme of All American dishes. Fish features on the menu and one of the tastier dishes worth trying is crab cakes with sweet potato fries and grouper with jerk sauce. Other not quite so tasty disCaptain Rons at Lake of the Ozarks: Nightlifehes include the pork tenderloin sandwich with its rather lumpy consistency and the tough as old boots ribs in lashings of bar-b-q sauce.

Overall, despite the fact that Captain Ron’s definitely has a great party atmosphere, particularly in the summer time, the food leaves something to be desired. Some of the dishes on offer are very good, but many are lacking in quality, which lowers the overall enjoyment of the venue.

Service is for the most part excellent and the staff are very friendly, so if you are happy to come to Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill to enjoy the atmosphere the venue is famous for, the restaurant has plenty to offer. What Captain Ron’s lacks in decent food, it more than makes for in nightlife and entertainment value.

Overall, based on the atmosphere, I would give Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill 3 out of 5 stars based on the mediocre menu, but would recommend it for a fun night out.

Review of Horny Toad Bar and Grill

Before visiting Horny Toad Bar and Grill in Lake Ozark, I had heard plenty of great stuff about it. Although I am not local to the Ozarks, we have some friends in theHorny Toad Bar and Grill area and they all said the restaurant was a really cool place to visit, especially during the summer when you can enjoy a drink and meal while admiring the fantastic view across the lake.

Horny Toad Bar and GrillSo when we decided to spend a few days visiting friends in the area, I was really excited when I heard we were finally going to get to see what all the fuss was about!

The place was totally packed when we arrived and we could barely hear ourselves think. I have to be honest and say first impressions were not good. I had been expecting a slightly more upmarket venue, but what I got instead was a low rent branch of Mcdonald’s.

However, I decided to overlook the grubby posters of Farrah Fawcett and various 1980s movies in favour of ordering some drinks. It took ages to get some service as the waiting staff was rushed off their feet, but eventually we managed to attract the attention of a waitress and drinks duly arrived.

The view across the lake was pretty spectacular and more than made up for the overpriced food. In fact, it was about the only good thing about our evening. By the time the food turned up, it was barely lukewarm and definitely not worthHorny Toad Bar and Grill the price we were being charged.

Overall, the Horny Toad Bar and Grill is probably a fun night out for the younger crowd, but we found it too loud and not good value. The restaurant had an amazing view across the lake, but it is more of a noisy bar than a quality restaurant so I would only give it a 2 out 5 stars.
