Kelly’s Clown Golf Classic

The Kelly’s Clown Golf Classic is a fund raising long drive event on April 30 featuring cocktails and a reception, plus a breakfast event on May 1 for amateur golfers in the Lake of the Ozarks local area.

The first fund raising event is an auction, cocktails and reception evening at the Osage National Golf Club. Cocktails are provided courtesy of LO Profile and hors d’ouvres are a gift from Central Bank of the Lake.

The second fund raising event is a 10am tee off on river and mountain at Osage National after breakfast provided by Mills Insurance. The event takes the format of 3 man teams to play, so you can either choose to enter your own team, or request that the organisers place you on a team.

Players who wish to stay overnight between the two events can take advantage of a special room rate for accommodation booked at the Osage National. Further information on the cost of entry for all events can be found on the Kelly Sport website or by contacting Randy Kelly on 573-348-4700.

Both events have been organized to raise much needed funds for the Lake Area Dream Factory, a local charity that makes dreams come true for critically and chronically ill children. This year, thanks to the tireless fund raising activities of its supporters and patrons, the Dream Factory will grant more than 350 dreams to children in need, but they still need your help in providing much needed support to even more sick children living in the local Lake of the Ozarks area.

So if you are a keen golfer and you want to help raise cash for this extremely worthy charity, come along and enjoy a fun night of cocktails and hors d’ouvres in the company of fellow golfers before playing a competitive game the next day!

Egg-mazing Race

Easter is about many things, but for kids, Easter Eggs probably sit top of the list of fun things to eat around Easter time. But apart from spending many happy days eating so much chocolate that you feel unbearably sick, what else can you do with an Easter egg?

The answer is play with it! EGG-Mazing races and Easter egg events are rapidly becoming hugely popular Easter events for families across the United States and Lake of the Ozarks is no exception.

What is an egg-mazing race? An Egg-mazing race is very simple: all you and your team have to do is follow the map, solve the clues, and find the hidden Easter eggs! But even though it sounds simple, in fact it is more difficult that you might think, so if you want to win a prize, make sure you select a team of people who are clever at solving clues and map reading!

In order to celebrate Easter 2011, the First Family Church in Osage Beach, Lake of the Ozarks, will be holding a special family Egg-Mazing Race on April 23. Even if you not a member of the First Family Church congregation, you and your kids are more than welcome to attend the Easter celebrations being held at the Church of the First Family, 645 Hwy 42, Osage Beach. The Easter celebrations will be taking place between 9am and 2pm and kids can enjoy a wide range of fun activities including an Easter egg hunt and large inflateables.

An online application form for entry to the Egg-mazing Race 2011 is available from the First Family Church website at www.myfirstfamily.org/register.

Races are as follows:

Morning:
Pre kindergarten 10.30 am
Kindergarten – first grade 10.45 am
2-3rd grade – 11 am
4-5th grade- 11.15 am

Afternoon:
Pre kindergarten – 12.30 pm
Kindergarten – first grade 12.45 pm
2-3rd grade – 1 pm
4-5th grade- 1.15 pm

Egg-mazing races have been separated into different age categories to make it much fairer for the children and in previous years, this has proven to be a great way of making sure that even the smallest of children can fun.

This year, the Church of the First Family has promised to provide more than 50,000 eggs—yes, you read that right—50,000! That is a whole lot of eggs, so we doubt there will be many people who still want to eat eggs at the end of the day. And even if it is raining on the day, the event will still go ahead!

3rd Annual Lake Area Taste Challenge

The 3rd Annual Lake Area Taste Challenge will be taking place on April 17 at Inn at Grand Glaize, 5142 Hwy 54, Osage Beach, Lake of the Ozarks. Sponsored by the Lake Area Chamber, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever and lots of local restaurants and eateries will be competing for the coveted Taste Challenge Award of Excellence.

The Taste Challenge is designed to showcase the best dishes on offer from some of the finest restaurants and local eateries in Lake of the Ozarks. Each venue will be serving a sample dish from their extensive menus and guests will have the opportunity to eat to their heart’s content and then vote at the end of the event using the judging ballot card you received upon arrival. The voting system is very simple: you pick the best dish in each category and at the end of the event, the votes are added up and the winner is declared. Each person who buys a ticket can sample as many dishes in each category as they wish.

Typical examples of dishes on offer include mouth watering starters and appetizers, fresh soups prepared using local ingredients, succulent meat and vegetarian main courses, crisp salads, tasty sandwiches and, for those with a sweet tooth, a delicious selection of decadent desserts.

For those who are new to the Lake of the Ozarks area, or even for those who are simply passing through while on vacation, the Lake Area Taste Challenge is a great chance for you to sample some of the fine food on offer at the best local restaurants in the Ozark area. The premise is very simple: you can choose your favourite dishes from the selection on offer and discover which place you want to go back to for more at a later date. This helps to garner new customers for the restaurants competing against each other and at the same time, you can enjoy a relatively cheap feast.

The Taste Challenge will be taking place between 11am and 2pm so do not be late, or you might miss out on the culinary opportunity of a lifetime. This is a popular event that only started two years ago and the numbers of attendees has increased yearly, which is hardly surprising considering the excellent food on offer for a very reasonable entry fee of $10 per adult and $5 per child.
